How We Calculate the Hijri Date
The site uses the official Umm al-Qura calendar — the calendar formally adopted in Saudi Arabia — to convert dates arithmetically rather than relying on local crescent-moon sighting. That means the date shown matches what most official and religious bodies across the Islamic world use, though it can differ by a day from countries that rely on direct local moon sighting. Because a Hijri year runs about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, Ramadan and other Islamic observances drift steadily earlier through the seasons over a roughly 33-year cycle.
Prayer Times
Prayer times are calculated using the adhan library based on established astronomical formulas, with automatic selection of the appropriate calculation method for your region once you share your location — all computed locally in your browser, with nothing sent to our servers.
Content and Sources
The event and month descriptions on this site draw on established Islamic sources, including the Seerah and authenticated hadith, and are reviewed periodically for accuracy. If you spot an error or an omission, we're happy to correct it as soon as we hear about it.
