The holiest month in Islam — the month of fasting, Quran, and Laylat al-Qadr.
Ramadan is the ninth and most sacred month of the Islamic calendar. The Quran was revealed in this month as guidance for humanity. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, pray Tarawih at night, and recite the Quran extensively. In the last ten nights lies Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power), better than a thousand months, when many Muslims observe I'tikaf (spiritual retreat) in the mosque.
