Ramadan — The Holy Month
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Hijri calendar and the holiest month of the year for Muslims worldwide. It is the month in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as guidance for humanity. Muslims fast from dawn to sunset throughout this month, abstaining from food, drink, and sinful behaviour.
Significance
Ramadan holds immense spiritual significance as the month of divine revelation, mercy, and forgiveness. It contains Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Power), which is better than a thousand months. The gates of heaven are opened, the gates of hell are closed, and the devils are chained during this sacred month.
Traditions & Worship
Muslims observe Tarawih (night prayers) and read the Quran throughout Ramadan. Breaking the fast (Iftar) at sunset is a joyful communal event. The last ten nights are especially sacred, with many Muslims performing Itikaf (seclusion in the mosque) seeking Laylat al-Qadr.
